I have recently switched from Windows to Mac and i am loving ittm. Been tinkering with the preferences and have been amused more than once by the capabilities available with OS X to protect the information on the disk.
- FileVault
- Secure Virtual Memory
- Secure empty trash
- Erase Free Space
- Allows to encrypt all data under your user folder.
If you loose your password your files are lost.
Should be used with Secure Virtual Memory activated.
- Encrypts swap files on disk.
This will not encrypt data on RAM, so make sure you don’t leave your computer on sleep mode when you can’t be sure none will access it.
- Writes over the pre-existing data, safely erasing it from the disk.
- If you do not trust the secure empty trash option Erase Free Space might be the answer has it allow for three different levels of Erasing data on available disk space.
